Scripture: Matthew 10:30 – “And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.”
Matthew noticed things.
In The Chosen, his mind worked in patterns, sequences, tiny details that others overlooked. The precise way coins stacked in his tax booth. The symmetry of the streets. The way numbers fit together in clean, predictable equations. It made him different. It made him useful. But it also made him an outsider.
People didn’t understand him. He was too rigid, too particular. His observations—meant to bring clarity—only seemed to widen the gap between him and those around him.
And maybe you know that feeling.
Maybe you’ve been told you think too much, feel too deeply, analyze too long. Maybe the way your mind works, the way you move through the world, has made you feel like you don’t quite fit. Like something about you needs to be fixed before it can be used.
But then Jesus came.
And instead of seeing Matthew’s meticulous nature as a flaw, Jesus saw it as a gift.
Because who better to capture the teachings of Jesus with such attentiveness to detail? Who better to compose one of the most comprehensive accounts of Christ’s ministry, preserving nuances others might have missed?
The very thing that made Matthew different made him perfect for the work God had for him.
And the same is true for you.
The way your brain pieces things together. The way you see patterns where others see randomness. The way you feel deeply, the way you process, the way you notice. None of it is accidental. None of it is wasted.
Jesus reminds us in Matthew 10:30 that even the hairs on our head are numbered. Every part of us—our quirks, our complexities, the things we’ve been told are too much or not enough—are known. Seen. Counted.
This verse isn’t just about God’s attention to detail—it’s about God’s intimate knowledge of our design. The same God who crafted galaxies and mapped the ocean floors took that same meticulous care with you. God didn’t just create you; God created you with intention. With purpose. With a divine eye for detail that saw your entire life before you lived a single day.
Think about it—the same God who placed stars in precise patterns, who engineered the mathematical symmetry of a snowflake, who designed the intricate dance of atoms—that same God designed you. Your sensitivity that others call weakness? It might be the very thing that allows you to notice suffering others miss. Your analytical mind that some find exhausting? It might unlock solutions to problems that have long gone unsolved.
The Psalmist wrote, “I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” There’s a profound truth there—that our differences aren’t divine oversights but divine intentions. Matthew’s attention to detail wasn’t a flaw to overcome but a gift to be channeled. And the same is true for you.
Maybe today, you need to hear this:
You are not a mistake.
Your mind is not an accident.
The things that make you feel different might be the very things that make you called. AND loved.
So lean in. Embrace the details. And trust that the God who numbers the hairs on your head knows exactly how to use every part of you for something greater than you could ever imagine.
Look around at creation—at how no two fingerprints are alike, how no two sunsets paint the sky with identical colors. God is not a God of uniformity but of beautiful, intentional diversity. And you—with all your uniqueness—are part of that divine masterpiece.
What part of yourself have you been trying to fix or hide? What if, instead, you offered it back to the God who designed it? What if the very thing you’ve been ashamed of is the thing God is waiting to use?
Prayer:
Creator God, thank you for numbering the hairs on our heads and crafting our differences with purpose. Help us embrace the unique ways we see the world, trusting that our quirks aren’t flaws but gifts. May we offer our whole selves to you today, finding purpose in the details you’ve woven into our design. Amen.
Grace and Peace,
Andrea
